When I add a link in the description field I cannot open it by clicking

Links should be automatically recognized by the description field editor. To open a link, click on it and choose the first available icon:

Adding links to cards is also possible with use of the Web Attachments power-up or an External Link field.
Links are also supported in checklists and comments.
